SustainabilityCrab, spider crab and lobster are not a precious stock species, therefore they’re not quotered like other fish stocks. However, we at Seafood House are fully committed to managing them properly in order for it to carry on as a sustainable fishery.
Laying of PotsOur boats fish off the fast tidal waters in the English channel, north of the island of Alderney. They are called a 'vivier boat' which is french for 'live holding tank'. This is because the middle of our boats are full of water, enabling us to keep the crabs and lobsters alive.
SelectionOur method of fishing is by use of pots. This is an excellent way of selection. They enable us to return any crab or lobster, undamaged, back to the sea if they are of poor quality, berried, or small in size.
EnvironmentThe process of catching the crabs is a very environmentally friendly procedure. We lay baited pots on the seabed not harming the corals or bed itself. We only select the best quality crabs and lobster and return the rest back to the sea alive.
PickingWhen returning to teignmouth, our quality crabs and lobsters are then taken direct from the quay and into our processing unit where they are all cooked and picked by hand by our experienced pickers.
DeliveryWe're a family run business and we believe our product speaks for itself. If you're within our local area we can deliver to you in our refrigerated van. If you require delivery further afield please contact us and we can make arrangements for you to also enjoy our quality seafood.
